Are four columns too much? Not if you have a really great WordPress theme that’ll really use the space well. If it also manages to be pleasing to the eye, you’ve got a winner. Unfortunately, these themes are quite rare and hard to find, but not any more – here you have 20 great, hand-picked WordPress themes with four columns.
Blue Lagoon 1.0 – this theme is a remix of some other well-known themes, but it’s very clean and usable, and looks great.
Slined Mod 2.0 – you can’t miss with white, grey, and light blue on black background. For best visual impact you might want to lose the distracting little badges visible on the screenshot.
Neo-Sapien 4.0 – this ominous theme will become less so if you replace the ‘evil’ header image. Some space is wasted in the upper portion of the screen, but you can use the red background for adding various graphical elements.
Identification band – the Quadruple – as simple as they come, perhaps bettered only by the 4-column Kubrick.
Quadruple Blue – a simple blue 4-column theme whose sidebars don’t steal the focus from the main content.
4-columns Kubrick – the legendary Kubrick, hacked into a 4-column theme. It doesn’t get much more usable than this.
Simply Tree Light – earth colors, 3 sidebars, 4 columns, widget ready. Easy on the eyes.
NYC Reds – a bit chaotic at first sight, NYC Reds is a solid high contrast theme that’ll stretch from 800 to 1600 pixels.
News Print – if NYTimes and similar sites appeal to you, you should definitely look at this one. News print is a clean, no-nonsense theme that’s great for newspaper-style blogs.
Royal Blue – perhaps the most professional looking theme in this bunch, Royal Blue is one of those 4-column themes that actually reduce the clutter.
Sensible blogging – this theme uses the extra two columns for adding Google AdSense. Great choice for those looking to increase their blog’s income.
YGo CMS – simple and easy on the eyes. Divides the main content into two columns, while the other two columns are used for menus.
YGo Greenary – a green version of YGo, with a bigger header image.
New Yorker – a fantastic theme based on the classy look of New Yorker magazine.
Fjords08 – definitely one of the most elegant 4-column themes out there.
FourWPTP – a fantastic, professional looking theme, fully optimized for AdSense and other ads.
City in Paint v2 – a nice blue theme with emphasis on the attractive background image.
Annoyed 1.0 – an interesting theme that might require some tweaking to work perfectly.
SusyGreen 1.1 – a memo-style green theme with a lot of emphasis on extra content. Great if your blog posts don’t have a lot of content.
Garden 3.0 – not everyone will like the header image on this fairly clean, white theme, but luckily it’s easily replaceable.
